But first-why would you want to listen to Audible on a PC?

Well, you may already have it on your other devices, but sometimes having it on your PC can come in handy. 

Mostly when:

  • You need to charge your other devices but you want to continue listening to your audiobook
  • You’re spending endless hours on the PC doing research, data capturing or drawing and would like to have your audiobook playing in the background
  • There is a problem with your eReader and you don’t want to use your phone

Whatever your reason is, it is pretty simple to listen to Audible on your PC if you want to.

Listen to Audible online

Audible has a cloud player that lets you stream your titles online. 

To listen online:

  • Go to www.audible.com/lib
  • Log into your Audible account. 
  • Go to your library.
  • Click Listen now next to the title you’d like to listen to.

The book will start playing in the Cloud player.  The Cloud player allows you to add bookmarks, change playback speeds, and jump chapters. Audible Cloud player is compatible with both Windows PC and Mac.

Download titles to your PC

Audible titles can be downloaded directly to your PC. This is a good option for when you are offline.

 To download Audible titles to your PC:

  • Go to www.audible.com/lib
  • Log into your account. 
  • Go to your library.
  • Locate the desired audiobook and select “Download,” located under the “Other Actions” column.

You will then see the download notification pop up. Once the download is complete, you’d be able to open the file and start listening to your audiobook with or without an internet connection.

Use the Audible App on Windows 10 PC:

If you have a Windows 10 PC, the Audible app is available on the Microsoft Store. Downloading Audible for Windows 10 is easy. 

To download the app:

  • Click on the Start button on your PC. 
  • Go to the Microsoft Store or you can click on this direct link. Search for Audible. 
  • Click on Get for the app to download and install. 
  • Launch the app once the installation is complete.
  • Log in to your Amazon/Audible account. 

After you successfully log in, you will be brought to your Audible library page. You can now select titles from your library or listen to new ones. The Audible app for Windows 10 allows you to navigate chapters, add bookmarks and notes, and control your narration speed. You can control your listening experience with Cortana (Microsoft’s voice-activated personal assistant) commands and button-free mode. You can also access the Audible store to purchase more content.

Using an Android Emulator

If you have a computer with an operating system lower than Windows 8, you can emulate the Android app with an emulator. There are many emulators such as Nox, BlueStax, Andyroid available for your PC to run Audible. 

To use an emulator:

  • Download your preferred emulator.
  • Install the emulator. 
  • Once you launch the emulator you will see a search bar.
  • Search for Audible.
  • Download the Audible app and install it. Once installed you can access Audible.

      Audible for Mac

For Mac users, the official way to listen to Audible is via iTunes. However, with the release of the macOS 10.15 Catalina, Apple has transitioned from iTunes to Apple books. You can still listen to your audiobooks on the Apple books app. iTunes will remain the default app for Audible if you are using macOS 10.14.6 or lower.

To listen to your audiobooks through iTunes you must authorise your Audible account to play on iTunes. To authorise your Audible account:

  • Go to your Library on the Audible desktop site,
  • Click Download next to an audiobook.
  • Click Yes in the pop-up message you receive asking you to “authorize your computer”.
  • Enter your Audible sign-in information.
  • Click the blue link on Audible that says Click here to complete your activation!

Your audiobooks will be played and saved in the Audiobooks section of your iTunes.

Apple Books

Apple Books is similar to iTunes. If you have upgraded your OS to macOS Catalina your Audible content will automatically be migrated to Apple Books. Just to be safe, create a backup of the library before upgrading. There are two ways to use Audible with Apple Books. You can either import Audible content into Apple Books or you could download Audible content with Apple Books.

If this is the first time downloading Audible content you will be prompted to authorise your account.

To authorise your Audible account:

  • Open Apple books and select Store.
  • Go to Authorizations and click Authorize This Computer.
  • Click Yes in the pop-up message you receive asking you to “authorize your computer.”
  • Enter your Audible sign-in information.
  • Click the orange Activate in Apple Books button

To import Audible content into Apple Books:

  • Open Apple Books.
  • Click File and select Add to Library.
  • In the “Add to Library” window browse to the location where your audiobooks are located.
  • Locate the title you want to import, highlight it and click Add.

All your Audible content can be found under Audiobooks in Apple Books.
