Amongst all services and subscriptions offered by Amazon, Kindle Unlimited was created to pick the interest of avid readers. This platform, which has millions of books across different genres, helps readers explore different books.
But not everyone knows — or understands — what Kindle Unlimited is or how to use it.
In this article you are going to learn what Kindle Unlimited is and if it is suitable for you.
What is Kindle Unlimited?
Kindle Unlimited (KU) is a platform on the Kindle e-reader where users can read and keep as many eBooks as they want for a monthly subscription fee.
You don’t need to be an Amazon prime member to subscribe to KU. When you sign up to KDP Select, your books are already included in Kindle Unlimited.
How does Kindle Unlimited work?
The way Kindle Unlimited works is simple:
- When you subscribe to KU, Amazon will give you free access to millions of titles, which include audiobooks, ebooks and magazines.
- Then, you can read your KU titles on any Amazon device or the Kindle app.
- You can borrow titles anytime, and you can keep up to ten titles with no due dates.
How to become a KU member
Becoming a Kindle Unlimited member is as easy as removing ads from your Kindle device. All you need is an Amazon account with a valid credit card, and your 1-click payment enabled.
Here’s how to enable 1-click payment:
- Under ‘Account’, go to ‘Content and Devices’.
- Click the ‘Preference’ tab.
- Set up your 1-click payment under the ‘Digital payment settings’.
Once your 1-click payment is set up, you can now subscribe to KU.
Since Kindle Unlimited allows access via the Kindle app, on Android, iOS, Mac, PC, you don’t need a Kindle device to be a KU member.
Subscribing to KU costs $9.99 per month and you can cancel your subscription anytime.

Is using Kindle Unlimited worth it?
Subscribing to KU makes you eligible to borrow up to 20 titles at a time. These titles display a badge in the Kindle store for easy identification.
If you are just using the KU for the first time, you can sign up for a free trial. At the end of your free trial, you will be billed a monthly subscription fee automatically.
Note: The titles in the Kindle Unlimited catalog can change at any time.
