How to read manga on a kindle device

Amazon Kindle is one of the most popular ebook readers in the world today — with good reason.

Kindle devices are handy lightweight devices, which give superb screen displays and have very strong battery life. There is no shortage of content to read on Kindle, but sometimes things get a bit tricky when it comes to reading manga on your kindle device.

In fact, it wasn’t until recently that the Kindle Voyagers, Kindle Paperwhite, and Kindle Oasis started supporting CBZ (manga) files.

In this article, you will learn what manga really is and how you can read them on your Kindle device.

What is manga?

Mangas are comics and graphic novels that originate from japan. Most manga that exist today are reminiscent of the style developed in Japan in the late 19th century. In fact, manga has a long prehistory in early Japanese art.

Manga as a term refers to both ‘comics’ and ‘cartooning’. Outside Japan, the word is used to refer to comics originally published in the country.

Apart from other genres in the kindle Reeder, manga is one that is different from all. It doesn’t just come as comics, but also in the form of cartoons, which is a great strategy for keeping a reader’s attention after they read the manga.

Where can I get manga to read on my Kindle device?

Below are a few places to find new manga books to read on your Kindle device:

1. Amazon bookstore

As the largest online bookstore in the world. Amazon has a wide selection of manga titles. You can purchase the digital versions of manga books or borrow them on Kindle Unlimited.

Manga books like Attack on Titans are available on Kindle Unlimited. With a KU subscription and a few clicks, you will be able to choose and read different manga titles.

2. Comixology

As the name implies, Comixology is a digital platform for comics, owned and directed by Amazon. This platform offers great deals on selections of manga titles that you can read on your Amazon device.

The appeal of Comixology is that it has a great user interface and allows you to read books in guided views. This means that you can read one storyline at a time, which makes it a lot easier to follow up on the story.

3. Overdrive Libby (only in the US)

Libby is a digital platform that allows users to borrow books from the local library. If you are a citizen of — or live in — the United States, you can use the Libby app to borrow manga books from your local library and read them.

A great Libby alternative for people that don’t live in the US is Kobo. With Kobo, all you need to do is find the nearest library, make the necessary registrations, and start using the app.

4. Author’s website

These days, most authors have their own website where they explain and sell their manga. If your favorite manga author has a website, you can visit it and directly buy the manga from the site to read on your kindle device.

5. Hoopla

Unlike the Kindle Fire devices, Hoopla is a digital lending service that you can access through your local library. This service helps you check out music albums, ebooks, audiobooks, and digital graph models—including western comics and manga series—with your library card information.

Wrapping up

As you may have noted, you can read manga on your Kindle device without going in circles or hopping from one place to another.

If you already have a Kindle device, it won’t be difficult for you to find the different manga versions on the Kindle stores. Now, you can download and enjoy reading your favorite manga.

If you don’t have a Kindle device or e-reader yet, don’t worry. If you have an iOS, Android, or iPad, there are a lot of apps where you can download manga to read, including Manga Box and Crunchyroll Manga.
