BookSummaryClub Blog The 10x Rule Summary

The lowdown: The 10x Rule summary covers Grant Cardone’s hit book and will get you on the path to kicking butt in business and in life.

We are told to take business slowly and a little bit at a time. Set small achievable goals and work your way up.

Pfft. No thanks.

In his book, The 10x Rule, sales trainer and entrepreneur, Grant Cardone gives his strategy on how to achieve success.

And I don’t mean in the ‘inspirational quote written over an Instagram image’ kinda way.

Cardone gives the reader a set strategy that he uses to get the most out of his business and his personal life: The 10x Rule.

The three key lessons from The 10x Rule are:

  1. Set outrageous goals
  2. Go ‘all in’ on life to achieve your goals
  3. Success (or failure) happens because of you, not to you

Lesson One: Set Bigger Goals

I am sure this isn’t the first time that you have read that you should be writing down goals for your business.

In fact, let’s be honest, every business book or article you read and podcast you listen to will tell you to “start with the end in mind”.

Usually, they tell you to start with small, achievable goals that you can knock off and keep the momentum going.

However, when you set your end goals, your actions follow suit. It is kinda like a student who only knows they only need 50% on a final to pass a class, and their average is close to 90%. When they have the 50% as a goal, odds are that’s all they’ll achieve.

So many of us have probably set out small goals, but one of two things will happen:

  1. You achieve them and don’t feel like you’ve achieved anything
  2. You fail at the ‘easy task’ because your goals subconsciously limit your output.

So, why not set massive goals. Goals that are 10x what you’re currently thinking?

Instead of setting out to sell 1,000 units a year, set out to sell 10,000. You will put together systems and procedures that accommodate for the 10,000 sales.

You’ll find that when your goals are 10x the average goals you’ve already set, you’ll 10x your output when trying to achieve them.

Lesson Two: Go ‘all in’ on life to achieve your goals

The beauty of setting outrageous goals that you actually care about achieving is that you’ll give it your all to make them happen.

Cardone points out children as great role models for this line of thinking.

When a child has their eyes set on something, it is all they think about. They go ‘all in’ to make it happen. Likewise, children obsess over almost every new thing they encounter. When a five-year-old is going through a phase of liking ‘The Hulk’, they are obsessed.

  • They watch the movie
  • They wear the costume, every day
  • They read the books
  • They play with the toys
  • They’ll even watch the outdated (but still awesome) Lou Ferrigno version of The Hulk from the 70s

So, get obsessed with your goals; Preferably in a way that doesn’t involve you dressing in a Hulk costume (not that there’s anything wrong with that).

When you’re obsessed with achieving your goals, you’ll face your challenges with extreme action.

Lesson Three: Success (or failure) happen because of you, not to you

Without a doubt, the most limiting mindset that you can have is believing that success happens to you.

We often take on this way of thinking because it is easy to put our failures on to something else.

  • The market crashed
  • A competitor took my share of the market
  • My ads stopped working
  • The local dollar plummeted
  • Production prices went up

However, this belief will only lead to you poorly handling any challenge you face.

Instead, you have to be aware that success happens because of you.

Success – and indeed failure – happens because of the actions you take.

This can be uncomfortable in the beginning, but the only way to fully reach your 10x goal is to take action and to tackle challenges by taking more action.

My Personal Takeaway

I am definitely going to re-think my business goals after reading The 10x Rule. I have set goals for myself that could potentially be limiting my output.

I will look to 10x my current written goals and make sure I have that in mind.

Book summaries are great, but I also really believe that you will not fully understand the book or the author without trying the real thing. Learn more about this subject by listening to the full book for free via Audible.

Put it into action

Today, go to the word document, or journal where you have written some long term goals for your business and 10x of them.

For example. if you’re aiming to gain 10,000 email subscribers one day, aim for 100,000. How do your smaller benchmark goals change when you have a 10x goal in mind?
