The Miracle Equation, as he called it, narrows down exactly what you need to do accomplish your mission of life. And you may ask, what’s my mission of life? Well, achievements. Goals. The pursuit of something that can fulfill that hole you’ve been having since you got out of high school and had absolutely no damn clue what to do next.

If you’re thinking that this is about how a guy miraculous escapes from death in the last second then you should give it a second look because I can assure you it’s worth the time. Actual miracles are the ones you search, create and make come true with determination, faith, and effort.

The way I see it, Elrod’s Miracle Equation gives us three very important lessons we should all put in practice:

  1. The key is to believe in yourself.
  2. Process, acknowledge and accept.
  3. Define small steps towards your mission.

Lesson One: The key is to believe in yourself

There’re two parts of Hal’s Miracle Equation, one of them is unwavering faith which means that no matter what happens along the way of achieving your goals, you have to make your mind about not giving up.

Our minds can be tricky and complicated but the key lays in convince yourself you can do it and not let anything interfere on that. Kind of like Rocky thought he could defeat Drago in Rocky IV or like Neo believe Morpheus he was The One, unleashing then all his potential and powers and kick Agent Smith’s ass.

Lesson Two: process, acknowledge and accept.

Let’s agree we all went through a rough time in a certain moment of our life unless you’re Hugh Hefner who seemed to have everything figured out.

When things go wrong it’s okay to feel upset, what really defines us is how we react to it. Because we can either choose to dig a hole and bury ourselves in regret and sadness or be could decide to do something about it.

Of course, there’re some situations where we simply don’t have the power to change whatever happened. Here is where I think Elrod got the one million dollar idea.

If something bad happens, take five minutes, think about it, scream, punch or cry if you need to, then, accept the fact you can’t change it and move on. You can either choose to inflict yourself more pain and misery or you can get your shit back together and move on.

Lesson three: define small steps towards your mission.

When it comes to achieving your goals, first, you have to prioritize them. Then, set a period of time to do it, and when you do, move on to the next. So, that means you can’t work 14 hours diary, go to the gym, have time to date that match you found on Tinder, start a new series on Netflix and stay in touch with your friends.

You have to choose one mission at a time, set yourself no more than 6 months to accomplished it and then move on to another.

Besides time you also need to control what surrounds you. Meaning if you’re going to start a diet you definitely need to get rid of those hidden cookies and chocolates in the underwear drawer (don’t lie, we all do that).

Finally, the second part of Hal Elrod’s Miracle Equation it’s to put maximum effort and figuring out which small steps you can repeat over and over to fulfil your mission.

My personal takeaway

I’m going to be honest with you, after reading this I believe I could climb Mount Everest in one night. I’ll be even more honest with you… I lack the ability, fitness and know-how to do anything close to that.

That’s how encouraging and lifting this book is. But keeping it real for a moment, I understood how I could become my dreams in reality.

Not by believing that they will magically appear in front of me but instead set a line of events and steps in order to do so. And after spending a month applying it I’m starting to see great results.

Book summaries are great, but I also really believe that you will not fully understand the book or the author without trying the real thing. Learn more about this subject by listening to the full book for free via Audible.

Put it into action

Don’t spend your life waiting for a miracle to happen and change your life forever, go out there and change it yourself. Believe with every cell of your body that you’ll get everything you want and work towards it without letting any obstacle get in the way.

You should consider this book if…

This book is probably one of the few I recommend without a second thought, not because I think we all are miserable in our lives and a failure but because it can show you that life is simpler than social standards have set to and you CAN accomplish all those goals and dreams you had when you were just a kid.
