Lesson One: Use books to inspire and stimulate you
It is pretty obvious that if you’re visiting a website like this, you obviously know the power of books.
However, it is reassuring to know that many leaders in their field use books as a source of inspiration.
For example. Jimmy Fallon and Terry Crews both say Viktor Frankl’s ‘Man’s Search For Meaning‘ is an influential book for them.
That is just one example though. So many people that Ferris interviews discuss the role of books in their lives.
So, find books that resonate with you and hold them close. Read them time and time again, and you will grow.
Lesson Two: Focus on your passion and don’t fret about the future
So many times people stress about the future and don’t do anything in the present.
This stress related to the future will tie you down and stop you from achieving.
Instead, focus on the present and the future will look after itself.
This focus on the present comes down to doing what you love.
Pro skating mega-star, Tony Hawk, believes that you only start to succeed when you live a life you love.
Even if you don’t know what you’re passionate about yet, the world around you is changing so fast, your dream job may not exist you, so work on resilience to help you get through an uncertain future.
Lesson Three: Value yourself and others
When Ferris asked his ‘tribe’ of mentors what is the one last piece of advice they would like to give to everyone, many mentors mentioned something that involved helping someone.
So, look to help your local school. Something as simple as coming in and talking about your job can have a massive effect on a student.
Also, make sure you make the most of what you’ve been given. Take the chances when they come, and sometimes the less obvious choice is the right one.
But finally, if you miss a chance, it’s okay. You’ll get plenty more. Make sure you’re ready for the next one.
My Personal Takeaway
This book has so many insights from some of the world’s best. Tribe Of Mentors is somewhat similar to the idea behind this book. But instead of summarizing books, Ferris summarizes thoughts.
