BookSummaryClub Blog Does Hoopla Work With Kindle Paperwhite?

If you’re an avid reader, you probably love your local library. However, with everything going on in the world right now, it’s not as convenient to pop into the library to borrow a new book and purchasing books may be against our budget. That’s where Hoopla comes in. Hoopla is a digital media streaming service which is offered by your local public library. It allows you to borrow ebooks, audiobooks, comic books, movies and even music on your computer, tablet or phone. So, does this mean that it doesn’t work on a Kindle? In this article, we take a look at Hoopla to check if it does work with the Kindle Paperwhite.

How Does Hoopla Work?

You can sign up to a free Hoopla account with your library card! How cool is that? When you sign up for an account, Hoopla will identify the public libraries which are nearby. All you have to do is choose the library that you are member at and enter your library card number. Then you just have to make sure that you have the Hoopla app on your device. That’s it.

Library members are allowed to check out 30 electronic items per month. You can choose from Audiobook, ebooks, Music or videos that your library has available. You don’t even have to worry about late fees if you forget to return an item on time. Once the item you borrowed has expired, it will no longer play on your device. Easy peasy!

Items can be checked out for these time periods:

  • Audiobooks – 21 days
  • Books – 21 days
  • Music Titles – 7 days
  • Videos (Movies and TV Shows) – 72 hours

Can I use Hoopla on my Kindle Paperwhite?

No. Unfortunately, Hoopla does not work on Kindle Paperwhite. There is no way to use the Hoopla app on those devices as it runs on Android and iOS only.

The only Kindle device you can access it from is the Kindle Fire

Overdrive can work

There is a similar service available which you can use on your Kindle Paperwhite and that is Overdrive

Overdrive is also a free service offered by libraries and schools which allow you to borrow digital content. Overdrive lacks a bit in the content department as compared to Hoopla and the checkout limit is dependent on the specific library. The added benefits to schools offering this service is that students can easily borrow their required readings. The downside is, unlike Hoopla, if the book is unavailable, you have to wait in the queue in order to borrow it.

Conclusion

So, as much as Hoopla offers this great service, you can’t access it from your Kindle Paperwhite. You can still use the app on a Kindle Fire, mobile, tablet or computer. Even if you love reading of your Kindle Paperwhite and you don’t want to strain your eyes reading on your non-Kindle device, you can always listen to an audiobook! Give Hoopla a try, it’s a great free app, especially if you love your local library!
